ME Care Program

| |

On September 26th 2010, the scholarship students along with the IB students were chosen to be ushers and host for a special guest, which was ME Care. ME Care is an organization, which consists of Hong Kong volunteers, which serves in medical and education field. We were asked to create a program for their 4 hours visit to our school. The ME Care people arrived at 8.30 a.m by bus with about 30 people ranging from high school students to adults.
During the day, we had an introduction of the school’s vision and mission by the principal, Mr. Erlangga, followed by the explanation from the ME Care team. Their visit wasn’t their first, and they wanted to reach out to remote areas, helping in medical and education field. After a brief introduction, we took the people outside to the backyard to play some traditional games, such as sack race, cracker eating contest, alongside basketball and football matches. The people enjoyed their activities there and they had no trouble blending in. Next we went back to the café for some snacks and some performances from the students. I even got to take 5 guests on a school building tour. They asked a lot about the school, but they thought that the school is very modern and has a lot of facilities in it. At around 12 pm, we went back to the backyard, took some pictures, prayed and the ME Care people had to go back and continue their journey.
From the limited time they were here, I can learn a lot from them, especially for community service. I am very fond of the fact that they have a purpose to serve for the medical and education field, which is important in a country, and doing it in remote areas in foreign countries. I find them very visionary that they pay attention to the social growth in a global way. I find this to be a rare opportunity for me to have foreign students and interact with them and I hope that there will be another opportunity like this in the future.
