In August last year, I joined a competition called International Competition and Assessment for Schools, which is an annual competition held by the prestigious University of New South Wales in Australia. The competition was a chance for me to challenge myself on a global level since the competition is an international competition. There were supposedly 5 categories being offered: Mathematics, Science, English, and IT, and Writing. I got the privilege to be chosen to join the ICAS Science competition. This is my third year joining ICAS. On my first year, I was chosen for the English category, and for the second year I joined the English and Science competition.
In order to prepare for this competition, the school held out drills for several weeks. The drills lasted for around 1 month and on the … of … 2011, I participated in ICAS Science. There were 45 questions with 60 minutes duration to answer, On this test, several previous year’s questions popped up, which was advantageous for us. The test involves calculation, data analysis, and data interpretation. The time given flew by so quickly and before I knew it, it was almost time to finish. Around 3 months after, the results were given out. I got … out of 45.
I thank God and the school for giving me this opportunity, because I could compete with international students, and this has been a measure of my capability in the Science subject. In the future, I hope that I would be given another chance to participate in the ICAS competition or similar competition, as it would be very beneficial for my IB studies. :)
